Grundfos-JP Booster self-priming pump

Overview

Grundfos_JP_BoosterThe Grundfos JP pump is a self-priming, single-stage centrifugal pump with axial suction port and radial discharge port, G 1 or Rp 1. The pump has a built-in ejector with guide vanes for optimum self-priming properties.

JP pumps are available in two material variants.

Material variant A:

Cover plate, motor stool and base plate in one unit. The handle is fitted crosswise. Both elements are made of composite material.

Material variant B:

Stainless steel cover plate, aluminium motor stool and stainless steel base plate, all separate parts.

The robust design makes the pump suitable for fixed installation. The custom-built composite handle is fitted lengthwise.

The pump is directly coupled to a special fan-cooled asynchronous Grundfos motor that is adapted to the pump performance Single-phase motors have a built-in thermal switch and require no additional motor protection Three-phase motors require external motor protection

Applications

Built for a long, trouble-free working life, the small and handy Grundfos jet pump is suitable for a wide variety of water supply and transfer duties in home, garden and hobby applications as well as in agriculture, horticulture and small-scale service industries.

Description/design

  • Wilo-COE-2 MHIL BC-DIMBase frame: made of galvanised steel, to be fastened to a concrete foundation
  • Pipework: Complete pipework of stainless steel, suitable for the connection of all standard pipe materials; the pipework is designed according to the hydraulic output of the pressure boosting system.
  • Pumps: Two pumps of the MHIL 3 to MHIL 5 series switched in parallel; all pump components that come in contact with the fluid are made of stainless steel/cataphoretic-coated grey cast iron. KTW/WRAS approval for all components that come in contact with the fluid. More information on the pumps can be found in the “Pressure boosting” chapter.
  • Valves: Each pump is equipped with an ACS-tested ball shut-off valve on the suction and pressure side and with a KTW-tested non-return valve on the pressure side.
  • Diaphragm pressure vessel: A diaphragm pressure vessel is to be designed and installed according to the installation situation.
  • Pressure sensor: A pressure sensor is installed and connected to the BC switchgear on the pressure side of each pump.
  • Pressure indication: On the pressure gauge on the pressure side
  • Switchgear: The system is standard-equipped with a BC switchgear.

Planning guide

Pressure reducer

Excessively high or strongly fluctuating inlet pressure requires the installation of a pressure reducer to maintain a constant minimum inlet pressure level. The maximum permissible fluctuation of the inlet pressure is 1.0 bar.

Volume flow

Up to 8 m3/h (111 l/s) system configuration according to DIN 1988 (EN 806); with standby pump up to 16 m3/h (133 l/s), with the standby pumps used for the peak-load operation.

Inlet pressure

The maximum inlet pressure (see Technical data) is to be observed for the system configuration. The maximum inlet pressure is calculated from the maximum unit working pressure minus the maximum pump delivery head at Q = 0.

Low-water cut-out switchgear (WMS)

According to DIN 1988 (EN 806), the installation of a low-water cut-out switchgear is required if the pressure boosting systems are connected directly to a public mains power supply; this prevents the inlet pressure in the mains supply line from dropping to values below 1.0 bar.

The requirements of the standard EN 806 and those of water supply companies must be met with regard to the electrical components.

CONTROL SYSTEM

Step 1) both pumps are stopped when water tank is fully charged. In
this condition water is supplied from the pressure tank and
water pressure in tank gradually decreases.
Step 2) No. 1 pump start at pressure P1 (point 1) and water supplied
from pump and pressure tank.
Step 3) When more water is required and water pressure decreases to
P2 (point 2), no. 2 pump also starts, operation point shifts to
point 3 and system shifts to parallel operation.
Step 4) When water consumption decreases, water pressure in tank
increase and when pressure reaches P3 (point 4) no. 2 pump
is stopped and operation point shifts to point 5.
Step 5) when water consumption further decreases, water pressure in
tank increases and pressure switch is turned off and the flow
switch used to detect small flow is turned off. When both
pressure and flow switch are off, no. 1 pump stops (point 6).
Flow switch setting point is at small capacity point; therefore
pump continuous operation range is much wider. Accordingly
pump start frequency is greatly decreased

SB

The Grundfos SB is a submersible pump for the pumping of clean water. It is designed for use in domestic applications. The pump itself is very silent, and when installed underground in a rainwater collecting tank or well, noise will never become an issue. Grundfos-CM-PM2The PM2 is the all-round control solution, offering adjustable pump start at 1.5 to 5 bar. This enables customisation to different types of installation and desired comfort levels. The start pressure is set inside the unit, whereas current pressure is read on the intuitive LED display on the front of the Pressure Manager.

The PM2 starts the pump when the starting pressure is reached, and keeps running as long as there is flow.

The PM2 is equipped with an internal pressure tank to minimise starts and stops in the event of leakage in the installation.

In addition, the PM2 can be optimised for operation with a large external pressure tank by enabling the 1-bar differential pressure function. This significantly reduces the number of operating hours of the pump in installations with a pressure tank.
